Joint Statement in Support of Abdul El-Sayed and Condemnation of Islamophobic Attacks

As Jews, Muslims, and anti-war Democrats, we unequivocally condemn the Islamophobic and racist attacks directed against Abdul El-Sayed.

Following Abdul’s win in the Democratic primary, the Trump administration and MAGA politicians and influencers have unleashed a vicious Islamophobic campaign. We saw the same happen after the win of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and the leadership of lawmakers like Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib. This Islamophobia and racism has reached truly horrifying levels.

Abdul is poised to become the first Muslim United States Senator, and he has been an unwavering voice to halt all U.S. funding and military support for Israel's genocide against Palestinians. Now, these smears and attacks against Abdul rooted both in Islamophobia and in anti-Palestinian racism have reached unprecedented levels. But on Tuesday, a multiracial, multifaith, cross-class coalition of communities is going to show that his platform reflects the overwhelming majority of Democratic voters.

Most Americans do not support the U.S. providing additional military funding to Israel and agree that what Israel is doing in Gaza is a genocide. Attacks on Abdul El-Sayed because of his statements criticizing Israel or condemning the Gaza genocide are a reflection of ongoing Islamophobic attacks on Muslim candidates for public office.

We need to condemn all forms of hate and bigotry, including anti-semitism, Islamophobia, racism, and xenophobia. As Jews, Muslims, allies, and anti-war Democrats, we stand together to support Abdul El-Sayed and defeat Trump’s fascist policies.
